Our 1st Bolivian Birthday Bash!
Yesterday, a woman from our host family´s church had a birthday, and we had the privilage of attending her birthday party! The party started at 9:00 p.m. (but we were un-Bolivian, and arrived at 8:00) after the jovenes (college students) from the church finished playing Wallyball.
For me, the best part of the party wasn´t the games we played (one was called Punishment, and involved seven different people making the sign of the cross on other people´s bodies – a forehead, an ear, a foot, etc. – and then the person being ¨punished¨ had to kiss each spot…we laughed so hard!) and it wasn´t the homemade pizza. The best part of the party was the conversation I had with Eunissa, a joven from the church.
Eunissa is a 24-year-old accountant in a construction company and she loves playing sports and eating foods with cheese. I´m looking forward to getting to know her better in the coming weeks and am excited that I have a new friend in Bolivia.
The party ended at midnight, with birthday cake. We´ve learned that in Bolivia, a party always ends with cake; both the wedding we attended and this birthday party closed with cake. It was a great time and we´re looking forward to celebrating more in the future with our new friends!
